We are assemlying a team of child escorts for the stars, preparing for the recruitment of volunteers and simultaneously signing contracts with hotels for the athletes. And much more besides. Although the 2023 edition of the Diamond League in the Silesian Stadium will take place on 16 July, the preparation work is progressing fast with 100 days left until the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. The tickets for the historic event are available to fans.
On 17 April, the organising committee of the Polish leg of the Diamond league circuit will make another announcement, revealing more names of the event's stars. The deals have already been made and the media team cannot wait to publish the list. We can confirm it will include Olympic champions from Tokyo. Piotr Małachowski, sports director of the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, is celebrating and telling the team the upcoming edition will feature the best field in recent history of Polish athletics events. - World Athletics announced the Kama Memorial was the sixth best athletics meeting in the world last year. Our ambition is to improve on that placing now – stated the former discus throw great.
Among the names announced previously are Armand Duplantis, the world record holder in the pole vault, as well as the fastest European 1500m runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen. They should guarantee that the organisers' goal is achieved. However, that is just one part of it.
- After we became part of the Diamond League last year, we received a summary of the athlete surveys. As it turned out, on a ten-point scale, our average score was 9.3. We were satisfied, but we needed to calm down. Now we are working on gaining the 0.7 points that separate us from the perfect score. It is possible – said the meeting director Marcin Rosengarten.
The work towards the goal goes on behind the scenes. Exactly 100 days are left until 16 July, the day of the competition. It is high time for the staff responsible for each area to finalise the details of transportation during the event or to sign contracts with the hotels hosting the stars. Talks are also under way with the nearby airports, with the aim that all guests of the Memorial receive information on how to reach the Witches' Cauldron immediately upon arrival. There are preparation going on in the venue as well. They include planning the communication paths in the stadium, as well as analysis of space for sponsor exposure, the camera angles and the drone flight routes. Another team is preparing the menu for the guests in the VIP lounges. Yet another is assembling a list of clothes sizes for the officials and volunteers to wear on the day of the event. Their recruitment is due to start soon. It is a great opportunity to experience the occasion from up close. Meanwhile we should find out the total distance the hammers have travelled during all the editions of the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. Yes, that is one of the tasks the marketing and media team is dealing with.
Other tasks have been assigned to the team that will assist the youngest fans of the Diamond League.
- The attractions we are preparing for them are only one part of our work. For the first time, we are taking a leaf out of football's book and planning on using child escorts. We are recruting children who would like to lead the world's top athletes out into the stadium. We believe that is a way to get the young generation close to the sport. Perhaps in twenty years' time one of them will become the star of the national team after they get to know and love athletics in Silesia in July? - Rosengarten said hopefully.
