The 2024 edition of the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial received the Event of the Year award at the yearly „Przegląd Sportowy” gala. This is the second successive year that the Polish Diamond League meeting was given the nod. - This is a sign of recognition for everyone participating in putting together the greatest athletics event in our part of Europe – said Piotr Małachowski, sports director of the Memorial. In 2025 the Memorial will take place in the Silesian Stadium on August 16th and the list of stars includes Natalia Bukowiecka and Ewa Swoboda. Tickets are available for purchase now.
Last year's edition was a special one for the Memorial and was filled with records. The event dedicated to the memory of Kamila Skolimowska took place for the 15th time. The jubilee edition was the best invitational event in the world in 2024, ahead of the two-day Diamond Legue Final in Brussels. 46 Olympic medalists from Paris appeared in the Silesian Stadium, including 13 champions. Thirty records of various types were set, including 11 meeting records and two world records. One of them, set by Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the 3000-metre race, was voted the Diamond League's performance of the year. - We also saw an incredible performance from Mondo Duplantis, who demonstrated once again that nothing is impossible for him – Piotr Małachowski stated. - The „Kama” Memorial scored 97,178 points on the World Athletics tables and became the best one-day competition ever – the sports director added.
- The marks achieved were amazing, but what happened in the stands was just as impressive – said the happy Marek Plawgo, the meeting's communications director. - Over 42 thousand fans showed up. That was a new record and nearly 70% more than the previous edition.It is evidence that the Memorial is not just a prestigious event, but also a popular one. It gave us great pleasure to see many families among the fans, with happy children and smiling faces. The Memorial is an event at which everyone can feel good – Plawgo added. According to a spectator survey conducted by Pentagon Research, nearly all fans gave the meeting a high rating, appreciating the excellent atmosphere, the chance to witness high-class competition featuring top stars, as well as safety at the stadium.
These factors were also recognized by the „Przegląd Sportowy” voting panel, resulting in the Memorial being given the Event of the Year award for the second year in a row. - We are proud that the athletics feast takes place in Silesia – stated Wojciech Saługa, chairman of the Silesian voivodeship assembly. - The Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial reached the top level thanks to the efforts of many people, who deserve great thanks. I am convinced we will reach even more summits in the future, as the event is developing rapidly and raising more and more interest in Silesia as well – Saługa added.
Another chance to reach the top will come on August 16th, the date of the 16th Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. We now know the meeting will feature both world-record setters from last year, Jakob Ingebringtsen and Mondo Duplantis. The organizers confirmed the presence of more stars in the Silesian Stadium, namely Natalia Bukowiecka and Ewa Swoboda. - The Memorial is a special event, one that always has a spot in my callendar. I set a personal best here in 2023 and I feel amazing here every time. These are magical moments – stated Bukowiecka, who finished third at the last edition in the 400 metres and set a personal best a year before.
This year, the Memorial is perfectly placed on the calendar. The World Championships will take place one month later, which means most athletes will be in top shape in the Silesian Stadium. - The World Championships are the focus for everyone, but I want to present myself well at the Memorial. I am hoping for great support from the fans, it is incredible competing in front of home fans – said Ewa Swoboda, who will participate in the 100 metres.
She may do it more than once. Just as she did last year, Poland's top sprinter is planning to invite athletics fans to join her in a race on the day before the event. - The Memorial has many goals. The top-level professional competition may be the main goal, but we also care about promoting the sport and a healthy lifestyle among the Poles. We want to show that passion, commitment and hard work allows you to make your dreams come true – Małachowski said.
